Winter in Prague is short on daylight and generous with atmosphere. Kick-offs, year-end meetings and Christmas parties fill December to February, and the season changes how an event should be planned — not only for guests, but for the pictures you will use afterwards.

Daylight ends early

In December the sun sets around four in the afternoon. Anything that needs daylight — a group photo outside, an arrival at a landmark, a city game — belongs before lunch or straight after it. After dark, outdoor pictures are still possible, but they become a different kind of picture: lit facades, street lamps, people in coats. Both are good; they just need to be planned for.

Snow is a bonus, not a plan

Snow in the city is possible but never guaranteed, and it rarely lasts. If it falls on your event day, we will make time for it — a few minutes outside the venue with snow in the air is often the picture everyone shares. But it is not something to build a programme around.

Cloakrooms and arrivals take longer

A detail organisers often forget: in winter, arrivals are slower because of coats, scarves and queues at the cloakroom. If you want pictures of people arriving and meeting each other, allow ten more minutes than you would in summer and tell us where the cloakroom is. The best arrival pictures happen just after it, not at the door.

Indoors, winter is kind to photographs

Receptions in winter tend to be warmer and closer: people stand together, the lighting is low and warm, candles and decorations appear. It is one of the easiest atmospheres to photograph well, as long as the room is not lit only by harsh overhead light. If you have a say in the lighting, ask the venue for warmer, dimmer settings for the evening part.

Christmas parties: the evening programme

Company Christmas parties in Prague follow a familiar pattern: welcome drinks, a short speech, dinner, sometimes awards, then music. The speech and the awards are the moments management will want, so tell us their timing in advance. After dinner, the lighting usually drops and the atmosphere changes; we keep photographing until the point you agree, often just after the first dance or the last award.

Kick-offs: bright rooms, long days

January and February kick-offs are the opposite: long working days in large, dark conference halls, followed by an evening event. The main hall pictures are about the stage and the audience; the evening pictures are about people. Planning both as one day — with a short break for us to change position and equipment — gives a gallery that tells the whole story of the kick-off.

A note on travel

Snow or ice occasionally slows traffic in the city. For events with a fixed start, such as an opening speech, a local team knows to plan extra travel time in winter. It is a detail you should not have to think about.
